Soldier Field 2015 Giant Screen Renovation

SMG Management contacted Sterling Lumber on behalf of Chicago’s Soldier Field and the Chicago Park District for a simple and economical solution to protect the field during screen renovations and changeout.

Protection: Minimize soil disturbance, compaction and protect Underground Coils, Pipes and Utilities

Environment Sensitivities: Chicago Bears Soldier Field has heating coils running under the turf to keep it alive during cold weather.

Project Duration: Approximately 3 Months

Scope: Prevent damage to the underground coils and field warming system when using a 350-ton Liebherr LTN 300 Mobile Crane and support vehicles to remove the old screens and install the upgrades. The solution should be more cost effective than purchasing, installing and placing 6’ x 10’ x 2” steel plates on the field for access and stability.

Sterling Lumber Proposal: Midwest Access Solutions could provide a turnkey 3-month rental and installation of 179 TerraLam 500-Series CLT Mats and 25 TerraLam 300- Series CLT Access Mats as needed for the renovation project.

Outcome: The Proposal was accepted immediately and Midwest Access Solutions began delivering the next day. Needless to say, for less than half the cost of just purchasing the metal plating, MAS installed the TerraLam mats in 1 day.
